Happy Easter!

Newel's Week

Currently, there are 52 people in Newel's family which includes his parents, their children, their children's spouses, and their grandchildren.  Newel's dad decided to put together a family calendar for the year of 2013 and assign a week to each member of the family to be honored.  During each person's week, the family sends love and positive energy to that person and includes him/her in their thoughts and prayers.  I think it's pretty cool.

Newel's week of being especially remembered and honored in the Mecham family calendar starts today, Sunday, March 31st and goes through Saturday, April 6th.  Newel's dad took this photo of Newel just prior to us leaving Salt Lake City to move to Birmingham, AL.

Look at our moving truck filled with all our stuff!  I still think it's crazy that we moved here some times.  We love the South, but seeing this picture causes me to feel some mixed emotions.  We miss Utah for all our loved ones that are still there.  We wish Alabama wasn't so far from them, but we're still grateful to be here.

Since it's Newel's week, I wanted to write something nice about him as a way to honor him.  Newel is the best man I ever could have married.  He’s the right person for me in every way.  Newel makes me laugh every single day, and is always sensitive to how I’m doing/feeling.  He is a spiritual man who loves God & His Son, and he loves his family.  Newel is my best friend, and I’m grateful to be married to him always.  I'm glad we are here together in Alabama, having some adventures in the South.

Oak Mountain Returns

Well, we actually returned to Oak Mountain but same difference. :)  Newel and I wanted to take advantage of the nice, Southern spring weather and decided to hike to Maggie's Glen at Oak Mountain.  Not sure why it's called Maggie's Glen, but it was pretty, and it was great to be outside enjoying nature.  Newel especially loves hiking with his new hip and not being so sore afterward!

Another Weekend in Atlanta

We went to Atlanta again, and it was a really fun.  This time, we went to visit my cousin and her family who live in the suburb of Acworth, GA.  My cousin and I couldn't remember the last time we saw each other, but we're pretty sure it was at least 10 years ago and she didn't have her kids with her at that time, so it was a wonderful opportunity for us to reconnect, get to know each other more & meet/have fun getting to know her husband and family.  Here are some things we did:

Hung out in their "cave" where they have a rock climbing wall, basketball hoops, hammock and cargo net.  Here I am climbing around with some of the girls.

Had a picnic and went on a hike at Kennesaw Mountain.

Saw old cannons used during the Civil War at the top of Kennesaw Mountain.  Thought my dad would appreciate that.

We also played outside and had dinner with more cousins in the Atlanta area and cousins that came all the way from Arizona!  I didn't have my camera with me for those pictures, but that was really fun too.  We love to have family close by in the South.  We are grateful for them and can't wait to visit again soon!

Spring is here!

Spring is our new summer here in Bham - at least to do fun things outside without dripping wet in sweat in a matter of seconds...  So we are enjoying the warm (but not too warm) weather!

Settling In...

I want to share some new adventure, but I can't think of anything.  Maybe we're just getting use to the South.  I guess the accents and sayings and talk of "Northern Agitators" is becoming less novel with time.  We still like it here though.  We're trying to enjoy the cool air as long as we can.  We hear March, April and May are nice and then it gets hot, hot, HOT.

P.S.  Happy Birthday from the South to my brother, Ty.  Love you little, big brother.

Dowtown Nashville

After going to Centennial Park and eating at Monell's, we went Downtown to experience a little more of Nashville.  We drove through Music Row (where you can find all the country music recording studios) and drove by LP Field (where the Tennessee Titans play).  We finally found parking and walked up and down Broadway Avenue where they have lots of historic buildings and people playing country music.  I loved it.  I like country music, and listening to it as we were walking through the District was pretty fun.  Newel's friend, Matt, came down from Kentucky and hung out with us while we checked out the sights.  Here are some photos:

Me making new friends in a new city.

It was a quick trip and we didn't get to do everything we wanted, but we know we want to go back soon and see/do a little more.  I kind of planned the trip for Newel since it was his birthday and I think I made it fun for him.  He deserved a good trip since he's a good husband and I'm thankful everyday that he's a part of my life.
